Impact parameter dependent parton distributions and off-forward parton distributions for ζ→0

Abstract: It is shown that the off-forward parton distribution for ϭ0, i.e., where the initial and final states differ only in their transverse momenta, can be interpreted as a simultaneous measurement of the longitudinal momentum and transverse position of partons in the infinite momentum frame.

“…In this sense, the Sachs form factors are not directly related to charge distributions and the definitions (4.42) only reflect a generic measure for the size of a hadron. On the other hand, an unambiguous interpretation can be found in the infinite momentum frame: there, the Dirac form factor F 1 (Q 2 ) is the two-dimensional Fourier transform of the transverse charge distribution, and the resulting transverse charge densities are positive for the proton and negative for the neutron at the center [564][565][566].…”

“…The range of integration in Eq. (2.1) must be restricted to |p| p + to maintain the interpretation of a nucleon moving with well-defined longitudinal momentum [7]. Thus we use the infinite momentum frame.…”

“…(2.1) sets the transverse center of momentum of a state of total very large momentum p + to zero, so that transverse distance b relative to R. can be defined. Thus one defines a useful combination of quark-field operators [7]:…”

“…These distributions relate to the total angular momentum of partons in the nucleon [4] and information on the parton's transverse location in the nucleon correlated with the fraction of the nucleon's longitudinal momentum carried by that parton [5]. The GPDs that have thus far attracted the most interest parametrize the nonperturbative part of hard exclusive reactions where the target system stays intact such as ep → eγp.…”
