“…In the present study, 43% (143/333) subjects had mucosal pain (PI ≥ 1) on the denture-bearing area, which was higher than that in the study of PRDP wearers in Japan (21%) (6) and in another study of CRDP and PRDP wearers in Japan (30%) (7), but slightly lower than that in the study of CRDP and PRDP wearers in Turkey (51%) (8). Subjects in the Japanese studies were volunteers who participated in the Senior Citizens' College (6) and independently residing persons (7), while the subjects in our study and the Turkey study (8) were enrolled from prosthetic clinics of university dental hospitals. Percentage of subjects using interim dentures in prosthetic clinics is probably higher than that in the Japanese studies.…”

Most of the factors reported in the previous studies were identified as significant factors in this study as well, but awake bruxism, pain sensitivity (PPT) and number of missing teeth were newly identified in this study.…”

The consequent oral discomfort due to hyposalivation and xerostomia may lead to difficulties in speaking and swallowing and taste disturbances and finally affect the quality of life . These subjective symptoms can be assessed only by the direct questioning of patients …”

“…6 The consequent oral discomfort due to hyposalivation and xerostomia may lead to difficulties in speaking and swallowing and taste disturbances and finally affect the quality of life. [7][8][9] These subjective symptoms can be assessed only by the direct questioning of patients. 10 Recent research into the oral health of patients with liver disease has shown that these patients have a high prevalence of oral infections before transplantation [11][12][13][14] and that they also are susceptible to oral diseases and posttransplant infections after transplantation.…”
