Impact of Variable Technological and Quality Factors on the Efficiency of Filtration Processes Using Dynasand Filters and Lamella Separator

Abstract: The paper presents the influence of the quality of water subjected to treatment on the filtration process, using self-cleaning DynaSand filters with contact coagulation. Technological factors directly influencing the filtration process and filtrate quality were identified, e.g. variable flows, retention time on filter bed and filtration speed. In addition, the purification process of rinse water in the Lamella separator and its impact on the filtration process were investigated. The Lamella separator combined … Show more

“…In the study, the following AOP techniques were used: ozonation, peroxone The photocatalyst allowed for rapid oxidation of levofloxacin residue in an aqueous solution, in the presence of light. Adsorption combined with oxidation processes and membrane filtration is well-known (Wiewiórska, 2023a, Wiewiórska, 2023b) but research to date has not yet led to clear conclusions regarding the possibility of removing pharmaceutical residues using strong oxidants, activated carbon, and membranes. Subsequent studies should focus on evaluating the currently used, well-understood technologies for removing pharmaceuticals from water and wastewater, as well as synthesizing new, highly effective, efficient, and cost-effective adsorbents and catalysts for pharmaceutical removal.…”

“…The main goal in municipal waste management is the absolute application of the waste hierarchy, in which the most important is the prevention and minimisation of waste generation, followed by design with recycling, recovery of qualitatively valuable secondary use materials and, as a last resort, disposal safe for health and the environment (Kang et al 2023, Kwaśnicki et al 2023. A modern approach to municipal waste management requires a comprehensive treatment of the issue, considering economics, ecology, and the conditions of local communities (Su et al 2023, Wiewiórska 2023a. The comprehensiveness of solutions should characterise the handling of municipal waste.…”
