Impact of the radial versus femoral access for primary percutaneous intervention on smoking cessation rates: A paradoxus between the health related quality of life and smoking quitting?

Abstract: Kontext: Zanechání kouření je potenciálně nejúčinnějším opatřením v rámci sekundární prevence a po akutním infarktu myokardu s elevacemi úseku ST (STEMI) sice zlepšuje prognózu, nicméně více než polovina pacientů po STEMI nadále kouří. Show more

“…Transradial access is considered to be a safe and effective technique for coronary interventions, which favored over femoral access in clinical practice. 14 TRCA has many advantages to transfemoral coronary angiography, such as less bleeding complications, more patient comfort, early ambulation, and short hospital stay. [15][16][17] Also, it has substantial superiority in achieving local hemostasis due to its smaller vessel diameter and superfi cial localization.…”

“…18 Therefore it has become the preferred route, especially in aggressive anticoagulation and antiplatelet treatment conditions. 14 On the other hand, radial artery spasm, radial artery thrombosis, and hematoma are among the common complications of TRCA. 19 Other rare complications of radial artery cannulation include dissection, pseudoaneurysm formation, infection, and perforation.…”

“…After experiencing the first myocardial infarction, patients tend to change their behavior. 8 Understanding the seriousness of the clinical situation is associated with fear of death. 9,10 Myocardial ischemia is associated with exercise intolerance that limits patients' activities of daily living.…”

“…16 Furthermore, in the current era of early reperfusion therapies, many patients with ACS are discharged earlier and may not be screened with day 4 FPG measurement due to increasingly shorter length of stays. 20 Therefore, there are many advantages of using HbA 1c rather than FPG, insulin levels, or OGTT for screening and diagnosing DM in an acute setting: less sensitivity to preanalytical variables, lower within-subject biological variability, little/no diurnal variations, and little/no influence from acute stress and illness. 21…”
