Climate change impact is one of the major burning issues all over the world where Bangladesh is one of the most affected areas. The aim of this study was to understand the climate-induced migrationrelated issues in the coastal areas of Chittagong. A total of 120 individual surveys and six key informant interviews were done in six unions of Banshkhali Upazila in Chittagong district. The result showed that agriculture and fishing practices are reducing compared to the past and people are more interested in migrating abroad. Among the six villages, the highest percentage of migration was found to be from the areas closer to the coast compared to others. Despite less awareness on climate change terms, most of the respondents have positively replied to the changes in the frequencies of climatic hazards. Several forms of driver, e.g. environmental, social and political are also discussed. The linear regression showed that the factors which positively influence the peoples' decision to migrate are average family age and social status. The dependency on agriculture, business near coast and fishing has a coefficient of −0.18, −0.36 and −0.24, respectively. Identification of community-based needs is important to ensure safe migration as an adaptation against climate change.

An estuary represents a transition point between freshwater and saltwater and has a complex but productive environment due to a strong interplay between geological, physical, chemical, and biological processes. In Bangladesh, the ecological factors and biodiversity of different estuaries have been investigated for the last 35 years. However, the data is widely scattered, not easily accessible, unpublished, and/or in the form of grey literature. In this study, an attempt has been made to aggregate information available on the geo-environmental and biodiversity status of estuaries for their sustainable management. The biological and environmental data of 21 estuaries along the Bangladesh coast were collected from previously published literature and analyzed. The analyses revealed that the estuarine environment of Bangladesh is very dynamic and diverse like other tropical estuaries. The physico-chemical and geological parameters in estuaries significantly varied due to monsoon patterns, nutrient influx, salinity intrusion, riverine discharge, siltation, and human interventions in estuaries. Among the key environmental variables, such as salinity (3.7–30 ppt), pH (7.04–8), dissolved oxygen (3.30–13.63 mg/L), and water temperature (21–30°C) varied. Over 830 faunal and floral species of 273 genera were recorded from the estuarine environment, including 208 fishes, 87 species of phytoplankton, and 67 species of zooplankton in this region. This study suggests the development of an appropriate policy to protect valuable, productive, and diverse ecosystems, especially for erosion control, pollution abatement, and habitat destruction, particularly in the mangrove forests and their associated habitats of Bangladesh.

The power of the river does not always work to the benefit of living things; rather, it has the ability to destroy human society and has negative effects on the environment. River Teesta has a prodigious significance on the riverine dweller and its changing precarious behaviour has repercussions on the lives of millions. Utilizing satellite images and 41 years of temporal analysis, the mapping of channel extraction and channel shifting has been demonstrated. Delineating the exact channel boundary is a laborious operation, but MNDWI technique is really valuable in this situation to produce valuable results. Descriptive statistics are used to analyze the Teesta River's active flow line migration trend and channel migration behaviour. A particular river's oscillating character over time has both beneficial and detrimental power, destroying important resources for environmental sustainability and human society while also providing fertile mother earth as a source of wealth. As a result, another goal of the current study was to determine how vulnerable riverine residents were. A livelihood vulnerability index (LVI) based on the riverine inhabitants' exposure, sensitivity, and capacity for adaptation was created. According to the findings, the river's erratic behaviour is putting the people who live beside it in danger. Therefore, it is vitally necessary to implement a capable management strategy to stop bank failure at the Teesta-Dharala confluence in order to save the riverine residents.
