It is a challenging task to analyze dynamic performance of a practical supply network system, as well as performance of its members. This paper addresses this problem, and proposes a new framework for multi-agent approach. In the paper, the primary objects required for supply network simulations are defined. The static relationships among these objects and dynamic order in which they interact with each other are also presented. Finally, a simple four-echelon supply network system is simulated to validate and illustrate the framework.

Abstract. The paper proposes an integrated framework which uses knowledge representation theory and languages to annotate relevant product information in a semantically rich and unambiguous fashion so disclosing several added-value services in multiple supply chain stages, without depending on a back-end infrastructure. EPCglobal RFID protocol standard has been extended and further applied in an innovative supply chain model where production, packaging and logistics have a reduced ecological impact. Particularly, on-product information are leveraged in a more general Intelligent Transport System (ITS) framework enabling advanced delivery scheduling and product tracking.

Supply network is kind of a typical complex adaptive system. Its structure not only changes according to uncertain market demand, but also evolves along with its external environment of industrial cluster. In this paper, a multi-agent simulation approach is proposed to study supply network dynamics. In the model, each supply network member is represented by an autonomous agent, acting subject to its own constraints and objectives. Finally, a typical scenario is implemented to mimic evolution and revolution of supply network. Some managerial enlightenments are, therefore, presented based on simulation results.
