Impact of postoperative radiotherapy and HER2/new overexpression in salivary duct carcinoma

Abstract: Postoperative radiotherapy is the only significant predictor for LRC. HER2/neu receptor expression is an independent prognostic factor for decreased DFS and DMFS in patients with SDC. In addition to radio(chemo)therapy, intensified first-line treatment regimens should also be evaluated in the future.

“…Haderlein et al examined the expression of Her2/neu, hormone receptors as well as PD‐L1 by using 67 SDC cases and documented that Her2/neu was independent worse prognostic factor. PD‐L1 overexpression was found in 16.4% of patients when setting in at least 5% of tumor cells showing either moderate or strong staining as the cut‐off value . In our present study, PD‐L1 expression on tumor cells was significantly associated with unfavorable prognosis.…”

“…Although there have been some reports on the association between salivary gland carcinoma and PD‐L1 or PD‐L2, to the best of our knowledge, a few reports on PD‐L1/PD‐L2 in SDC have been found in the English literature . Mukaigawa et al examined the expression of PD‐L1 using 219 surgically resected salivary gland carcinomas.…”

“…Despite the advancements in surgery, systemic therapy and radiotherapy, the prognosis of SDC remains meager (6). Despite showing trends toward improved local control, especially the role of adjuvant radiotherapy remains unclear (6,(17)(18)(19)(20). These tumors are currently treated in analogy to other MSGT.…”
