Impact of Physical Properties and Chemical Composition of Limestone on Decomposition Activation Energy

Abstract: In broad sense definition, the limestone is any rock rich in CaCO3. Limestone can be obtained from a variety of sources and various limestones differ considerably in their chemical compositions and physical structure. The chemical and physical properties of carbonate rocks are interdependent. Physical characteristics of limestone play an important role in evaluating a deposit. Certain physical characteristics in limestones may indicate a general disposition description during calcination. However, all stones w… Show more

“…The local limestone meals are produced from diverse natural carbonate rocks as part of the Bukit Barisan cluster. The mineral composition and macroscopical characteristics of limestones show considerable variations due to their diversity in Calcium (Ca) and Magnesium (Mg) contents, crystalline structure, and natural impurities (Kiliç, 2013). Limestone meal is usually labeled and sold as calcite (CaCO3) and dolomite (CaMg[CO 3 ] 2 ) for agricultural lime and animal feed considering that the ratio of Ca to Mg (MgCO3/CaCO3) varies depending on the type of limestone.…”

“…Calcination is a process through which mineral decomposition and the physical properties of limestones and oyster shells are upgraded using high temperatures (≥ 700°C) in thermal treatment (Kiliç, 2013;Ha et al, 2019). The primary purpose of calcination is to eliminate water and organic matters and convert all or part of the calcium carbonate present into calcium dioxide (CaO, Özer, 2003).…”
