“…The pooled clinical success rate of all interventions, defined as the pooled proportion of patients having clinical improvement with treatment, was 73.6% [95% CI: 64.0%‐83.1%; Cochran's Q = 19.9, I 2 = 54.9%] 20,21,23,25,31,49‐53 (Figure 5). We did not detect any publication bias using Egger's test ( P = .290).…”

“…There were insufficient data to pool outcomes of individual treatments (except for POEM), so we pooled data into two categories: medical or endoscopic. Medical treatment (pooling data on calcium channel blockers, nitrates, PPIs, peppermint oil, and antidepressants) resulted in a pooled clinical success rate of 62.6% [95% CI: 46.5%‐78.7%; Cochran's Q = 9.2, I 2 = 45.8%] 20,21,23,25,31,52 . Endoscopic treatment (pooling data on endoscopic dilation, endoscopic Botox injection, and POEM) resulted in a pooled clinical success rate of 79.4% [95% CI: 74.2%‐84.5%; Cochran's Q = 2.8, I 2 = 0%] 21,23,25,31,49‐51,53 and this was significantly superior to medical treatment ( P = .012) (Figure 5).…”

“…Thirty-eight patients were included in the study; among these, 63% of patients reported complete symptom resolution, and the remaining patients reported mild-tomoderate symptom improvement. This study involved not only patients with DES but also those with esophagogastric junction outflow obstruction, hypercontractile esophagus, ineffective esophageal motility, and symptomatic patients with normal motility testing [17]. In our case study, we managed an elderly patient with comorbidities who was best treated with peppermint oil treatment in order to avoid side effects that accompany other medications such as nitrates and calcium channel blockers.…”
