Impact ofD0D0¯mixing on the experimental determi

Abstract: Several methods have been devised to measure the weak phase γ using decays of the type B ± → DK ± , where it is assumed that there is no mixing in the D 0 − D 0 system. However, when using these methods to uncover new physics, one must entertain the real possibility that the measurements are affected by new physics effects in the D 0 − D 0 system. We show that even values of xD and/or yD around 10 −2 can have a significant impact in the measurement of sin 2 γ. We discuss the errors incurred in neglecting this … Show more

“…However, the product H ij k D j with (ij) symmetric (the 15) is proportional to H ij k D j with (ij) antisymmetric (the 6), and the linear combination A 8 ≡ A 15 8 − A 6 8 is the only one which appears. Thus there are effectively two invariant amplitudes.…”

“…(4) that if y is significantly larger than x, then δ must be known very precisely for experiments to be sensitive to new physics in the terms linear in x and y. It may be possible to measure δ with some accuracy at the planned τ -charm factory CLEO-c [15,16].…”

“…The combinations are potentially sensitive to subleading effects from D 0 -D 0 mixing [35][36][37]. These are corrected for where necessary, by taking into account the D 0 decaytime acceptances of the individual measurements.…”

“…Since SU (3) F is badly broken in D-decays, large values of sin δ [11] are possible. At any rate, regardless of the theoretical estimates, this strong phase could be measured at CLEO-c [12]. It is also easy to obtain the time-integrated asymmetry for Kπ.…”
