“…has encountered the terminology “abuts the mandible” in pathology reports at two separate institutions, which led to the hypothesis of the current study that cases of erosive mandibular invasion were potentially being described as abutting the mandible . The suspicion that cases of erosive mandibular invasion were being missed due to the ambiguity of this terminology was reinforced in the study by Fives et al in Ireland, which reported a series of 31 cases of mandibular invasion by SCC; they found that all 31 cases with mandibular invasion also exhibited medullary space invasion . In the Discussion section of the article by Fives et al, the authors recognized this finding to be abnormal, and described that protocols for sampling bone at their institution were likely prone to missing minor cortical invasion.…”

“…Tumor size, stage, and bone invasion often considered as severity indicators of OSCC. However, the correlation between bone invasion and OSCC prognosis is still controversial 24,25 . They were using paired biopsy‐confirmed tissue specimens of lesion site from 108 incident and 27 recurrent OSCC patients, the statistical correlation between methylation level and severity of OSCC, reflecting the fact hypermethylation related to the progression of OSCC.…”

“…cm(21). A porcentagem significativa de casos com recidiva loco-regional (30,6%), mostra uma dificuldade ainda presente na cura da doença.Com relação à localização do tumor, na amostra estudada a região mais frequente foi o assoalho da cavidade oral, em quase metade dos casos (45%), seguido da área retromolar (16%).…”
