“…Actually, when the teacher conducted this action research project, we were not aware of the recent shift from traditional view considering literacy instruction being solely the charge of language arts teachers to content-based literacy focusing on helping students learn how to understand discipline-based texts and engage in literacy skills, strategies and practices specific to each discipline. Upon working on the editor and reviewers' comments, we realized that what the classroom teacher did in this action research project fitted the description of what researchers and educators (Chauvin and Theodore, 2015;Gutierrez de Blume et al, 2021) have recently been advocating for a new approach of content-based literacy in which the teacher emphasized the writing practices specific to history so that her students are encouraged to write like historians.…”
