Impact of land use land cover changes on ecosystem service value – A case study of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in South China

Abstract: The rapid increase in anthropogenic activities, socioeconomic development, and land use land cover (LULC) changes since the opening of economic reforms (1978), have changed the ecosystem service value (ESV) in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao (GKHM) region located in South China. This leads to the requirement of a significant tailored analysis of ecosystem services regarding incisive and relevant planning to ensure sustainability at regional level. This study focuses on the use of Landsat satellite imagery to q… Show more

“…Others assert that integrated water resources planning and management is vital as one of the elements of natural resources management (Laekemariam et al 2016;Qayum et al 2016;Seyoum 2016;Teshome 2016;Miheretu and Yimer 2017;Meshesha and Khare 2019). Others attest that payments for ecological services are vital for the sustainable management of natural resources (Tolessa et al 2017;Bogale 2020;Hasan et al 2020).…”

“…The assessment of ecosystem service values (ESV) is primarily based on the economic estimation for different types of ecosystems under a benefit transfer approach [60]. In this research, we propose an equivalent metric for estimating the value of ecosystem services [61], which also could be used in the whole of China. The calculation formula of the ESV coefficient [61] is as follows:…”
