Impact of Lambda Value on Combustion Characteristics and Emissions of Syngas-Diesel Dual-Fuel Engine

Abstract: A deep understanding of the ignition characteristics of syngas-diesel under different lambda values is essential for the application of dual-fuel combustion. In this study, the effect of increasing the lambda value was examined along with the emission characteristics and engine performance of syngas-diesel dual-fuel engines under a constant syngas-to-diesel substitution ratio of 52% at 2000 rpm engine speed. The work involved computational fluid dynamics analysis related to combustion for a four-stroke single-… Show more

“…This proves that the quality of combustion improves with the addition of forced combustion air to increase the amount of oxygen in the cylinder. This was also shown in previous studies (Baskar & Senthilkumar, 2016;Hassan, Zainal, & Miskam, 2011;Hassan, Zainal, Aizat, et al, 2011;He et al, 2022;Mahmood et al, 2022;Palaniswamy et al, 2016;Peng et al, 2018). Moreover, adding combustion air affected the CO concentrations in all engine loads.…”

“…Excess air results in high carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) formation (Heywood, 1988). Mahmood et al (2022) explained that when the air concentration is richer in the ratio of the fuel mixture, all the C can be converted to CO2, and it does not form CO.…”

“…Concurrently, the RNG k-model was implemented to model turbulence predicated on. The collision model, along with the TAB breakup model, are applied to the spray [18]. Due to the difficulty of the problem, only a 60° sector of the model was defined utilizing 3D software, as shown in Figure 2.…”
