Impact of implementing lean practices on firm performance: a study of Northern India SMEs

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impingement of lean manufacturing practices (LMPs) in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of Northern India and their relationship with firm performance. This paper makes an attempt to identify the lean practices, which are more beneficial and their impact on firm performance. Design/methodology/approach In this study, a qualitative survey of 183 Northern India SMEs is collected and analysed using correlation, regression, canonical analysis and ANOVA te… Show more

“…A further five items adapted from Kyndt et al 2013 [77] were used to measure workers' perceived behavioral control. Response options available to the respondents included a 7-point scale anchored by ( 1) 'Not at all true' to (7) 'Very true' for perceived organizational support and (1) 'strongly disagree' to (7) 'strongly agree' for attitude, learning motivation, self-efficacy, and learning intention.…”

“…To respond to this significant issue in manufacturing systems, organizations bank upon improving the effectiveness of various supporting functions such as maintenance to realize maximum operational efficiency in manufacturing functions (Pun et al , 2002). Manufacturing efficiency is controlled by the extent of its ability to follow procedures and implementation of maintenance practices (Chan et al , 2005; Saini and Singh, 2020).…”

“…And, this approach later came to be known as Lean manufacturing. Lean manufacturing helped the industries to recognize their potential after eradicating wastes and improving the process efficiency of the system (Saini and Singh, 2020). Even a piecemeal approach of industries to Lean manufacturing yielded better results (Gunasekaran et al , 2000; Yadav et al , 2019).…”
