Impact of High Energy Mining-Induced Seismic Shocks from Different Mining Activity Regions on a Multiple-Support Road Viaduct

Abstract: In this paper, the dynamic responses of a large-scale multiple-support road viaduct to mining-induced seismic events registered in two regions of mining activity were compared. The regions differ in geological structure, which results in discrepancies in the dominant frequency content. Spatial variation of ground motion causing the kinematic excitation non-uniformity was accounted for in the dynamic analyses of this large-scale structure. Non-uniform mining-induced kinematic excitation models were proposed, wi… Show more

“…Boro ń et al [6] show uniform and non-uniform kinematic excitation models adopted for assessment of mining-induced seismic events that are dangerous for large-scale structures in mining clusters. Induced earthquakes are considered in the article as long-term consequences of continuous mining, and the effect of spatial variation of ground motion is explored.…”

“…Aramis M / E seismic system. It enables detection, digital recording and buffering of seismic quakes transmitted from the bottom of the mine and their further processing (in terms of their localization and energy calculation), visualization and archiving [11,22]. Figure 1 shows an example of a plot of a seismic tremor recorded by the Aramis program.…”

“…The authors of dynamic analyzes usually assume that the movement of the structure supports is the same. However, in the case of multi-support constructions, a simplification such as the omission of the space-time complexity of the excitation may lead to inaccurate approximations and even errors, including non-conservative results that do not ensure the safety of the structure [10,11].…”
