Impact of hierarchy upon the values of neutrino mixing parameters

Abstract: A neutrino-oscillation analysis is performed of the more finely binned Super-K atmospheric, MI-NOS, and CHOOZ data in order to examine the impact of neutrino hierarchy in this data set upon the value of θ13 and the deviation of θ23 from maximal mixing. Exact oscillation probabilities are used, thus incorporating all powers of θ13 and ε := θ23 − π/4. The extracted oscillation parameters are found to be dependent on the hierarchy, particularly for θ13. We find at 90% CL are ∆32 = 2.44 +0.26 −0.20 and 2.48 +0.25 … Show more

“…Recent long-baseline reactor experiments [2,3,4] have accurately measured the value of θ 13 and found it to be large, sin 2 (2 θ 13 ) ≈ 0.1. Before these measurements, the world's data demonstrated very little preference for either the hierarchy or the sign of θ 13 [5]. The goal of this work is to examine the effect that the recent knowledge of θ 13 has on the hierarchy question and on the sign of θ 13 .…”

“…An additional hint for a non-zero value of θ 13 can be obtained from the combination of atmospheric and long-baseline neutrino data [31,32]. Atmospheric neutrino data from Super-Kamiokande I+II+III described in the previous section implies a best fit point very close to θ 13 = 0 [22], with ∆χ 2 = 0.0(0.3) for θ 13 = 0 for NH (IH).…”
