Impact of dietary Mannan-oligosaccharide and β-Glucan supplementation on growth, histopathology, E-coli colonization and hepatic transcripts of TNF-α and NF- ϰB of broiler challenged with E. coli O78

Abstract: Background: Using probiotics have become popular. They are considered an alternative to Antibiotic Growth Promoters (AGP). Probiotics are supplemented into animal feed for improving growth performance along with preventing and controlling enteric pathogens. The aim of this work was to study the impact of dietary supplementation of Mannan-oligosaccharide and β-Glucan (Agrimos®) on broiler challenged with Escherichia coli O78 (E. coli O78 - marked with an antibiotic (320 μg ciprofloxacin/ml broth) on growth perf… Show more

“…The current result is consistent with previous studies that reported EP supplementation improves serum biochemical indices in chickens ( Guo et al, 2021a , Wassie et al, 2021b ) and rats ( Tang et al, 2013 ). In line with our study, the hypolipidemic activities of mannan-oligosaccharide and β-glucan supplementation have been reported previously ( Fadl et al, 2020 ; Korolenko et al, 2020 ).…”

“…In addition, β-glucans inclusion has been shown to stimulate humoral and cell-mediated immune responses ( Omara et al, 2021 ; Wang et al, 2021 ), alleviated aflatoxin B (1)-induced DNA damage in lymphocytes ( Zimmermann et al, 2015 ), and prevented C. perfringens -induced necrotic enteritis ( Tian et al, 2016 ), thereby used as an alternative to antibiotics ( Schwartz and Vetvicka, 2021 ). Supplementation of broiler's diet with mannan-oligosaccharide and β-glucan could improve the immune response ( Awaad et al, 2011 ; Fadl et al, 2020 ). Furthermore, our previous study indicated that supplementation of diet with yeast glycoprotein promotes growth performance and improves gut health in weaned piglets ( Qin et al, 2019 ).…”

“…A number of investigations have pointed to the effects of stress at the cellular level as a result of excessive free radical generation or insufficient antioxidant defense [4]. The excessive buildup of free radical species (ROS/RNS) is followed by disruption in cell homeostasis, which leads to oxidative damage such as lipid peroxidation and oxidative damage to proteins and DNA [5][6][7][8]. Antioxidant defense systems are made up of a complicated network of antioxidants that are synthesized internally as enzymes and supplied externally as vitamins and minerals [7].…”
