“…[37,38] In regard to the remaining variables found to be signi cant on the multivariate model, there is literature which shows and corroborates that, as in this study's results, older age and more advanced disease stages prognosticate worse survival. [39,40] In addition, according to the literature and in line with the high percentage of the presence of other comorbidities in this study sample (86.8%), female BCS can take on the pro le of a multimorbid patient. Therefore, comprehensive follow-up is necessary in which there is intervention from a coordinated clinical team that provides a response to each of the underlying complications.…”

“…This is controversial because the reason why screening should be independent prognostic factor survival is not well-understood and therefore drawing a credible quantitative conclusion as to the extent of survival advantage is not easy. However, it has been the focus of much research and the survival estimate we use [32] is similar to that reported by others who have shown the method of detection to be an independent prognostic factor [41][42][43][44]. Without this assumption in the model, PROCAS still remained an effective use of NHS resources compared to other risk-stratified screening regimens and to current screening, The model does not consider the budget or capacity implications of alternative screening regimens.…”

“…Women with cancer are assigned an age when it is detected from clinical symptoms upon entry into the model. Several observational studies support this assumption [31,32]. However, the absence of randomised controlled trials room for debate regarding the independent impact of mode of detection on survival and therefore this assumption is tested in sensitivity analysis.…”
