Impact of critical current fluctuations on the performance of a coated conductor tape

Abstract: Coated conductor (CC) tapes often exhibit critical current, Ic, which fluctuates along the length coordinate, x, leading to an Ic(x) dependence. The need to reduce the price of these tapes does not favor a decrease in the variation of Ic in the near future. Therefore, it is reasonable to develop a method for estimating the possible impact of such fluctuating transport ability on the performance of superconducting devices. Fortunately, providing Ic(x) data together with the delivered conductor is becoming a sta… Show more

“…This 2D approximation automatically implies that the materials' properties are assumed to be constant along the conductors' length. Therefore, for example, the variation of J c along a tape's lengthwhich is observed experimentally [40]-cannot be taken directly into account. In the case of infinitely long conductors (like straight tapes or cables), it is sufficient to consider their transversal cross section (xy plane).…”

“…At present, there are few research on the failure mode of ReBCO tapes. The existing studies mainly focus on the critical current recession and threshold current of ReBCO tapes under different types of overcurrent [12][13][14][15]. Our research team has also previously studied the ultimate withstand capability of ReBCO tapes with different encapsulation materials under various overcurrents and the degradation of the critical current of ReBCO tapes under repeated overcurrent [9,10,16,17].…”
