Background: Covid-19 pandemic has spread throughout the world in a short period of time. It has adversely affected the physical, mental and social well-being of communities including pregnant women. This study is aimed to determine the frequency, severity and associated factors of depression, anxiety and stress among pregnant women during COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Sharif Medical City Hospital, Lahore, from August to September 2020.Data was obtained on structured proforma comprised of two sections. Section one consisted of sociodemographic and obstetric components while second two was based on Urdu Version of DASS-21. Data was analyzed using SPSS-23. Results: Total number of women was 350. Their mean age was 27.47 ± 4.72 while mean duration of their pregnancy was 26.33±9.17weeks. Mean DASS-21 score of depression, anxiety, and stress was 8.00±2.89, 5.80±3.10 and 9.18±2.80 respectively. It was observed that depression was present in 123(35.1%) ranging from mild to moderate, anxiety in 127(36.3%) ranging from mild to very severe and stress in only 20(5.7%) women and was mild. Education was significantly associated with all three domains. The women who were infected themselves or any other family member affected with COVID-19 showed positive association for depression (p=0.00) and stress (p=0.00). Stress was higher in young age groups (p=0.04) and in women with higher monthly income (p=0.00) while parity also showed association with anxiety (p=001). Anxiety and depression were more in house wives (p=0.00) while stress in working women (p=0.00). Conclusion: Frequency of depression and anxiety was notable varying from mild to very severe however for stress it was low and mild. Educational level was significantly associated with depression, anxiety, and stress.

ZusammenfassungSeit Beginn der SARS-CoV-2-Pandemie haben die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe und die Gesellschaft für Peri-/Neonatalmedizin Empfehlungen zum Umgang mit SARS-CoV-2-positiven Schwangerschaften und Neugeborenen veröffentlicht und wiederholt aktualisiert. Als Weiterführung der bestehenden Empfehlungen werden in dem aktuellen Update Schlüsselfragen zur prä-, peri- und postnatalen Versorgung von Schwangeren, Gebärenden, Wöchnerinnen, Stillenden mit SARS-CoV-2 und COVID-19 sowie deren Un- oder Neugeborenen auf der Grundlage von Veröffentlichungen bis zum September 2021 behandelt. Die Empfehlungen und Stellungnahmen wurden sorgfältig aus den aktuell verfügbaren wissenschaftlichen Daten abgeleitet und anschließend im Expertenkonsens verabschiedet. Dieser Leitfaden – hier in der Langfassung vorliegend – soll eine Hilfe für die klinische Entscheidungsfindung darstellen. Die Auslegung und therapeutische Verantwortung obliegen weiterhin dem betreuenden medizinischen Team vor Ort, dessen Entscheidungen durch diese Empfehlungen unterstützt werden sollen. Aufgrund der raschen Dynamik neuer Erkenntnisse kann eine Anpassung erforderlich sein. Die Empfehlungen werden durch die Zustimmung der Fachgesellschaften getragen: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Perinatale Medizin (DGPM), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe (DGGG), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Pränatal- und Geburtsmedizin (DGPGM), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Pädiatrische Infektiologie (DGPI), Gesellschaft für Neonatologie und Pädiatrische Intensivmedizin (GNPI).

Background Depression is the most common mental health disorder among HIV-positive pregnant mothers, which increases mortality, poor quality of life; it also increases the burden of disease. Depression hurts birth outcomes and maternal health. Objective To assess depression and its associated factors among HIV-positive pregnant women attending antenatal care at Northwest Amhara referral hospitals, 2021. Methods An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 291 HIV-positive pregnant mothers from March 15, 2021 to April 30, 2021 at Northwest Amhara referral hospitals. Census was applied to reach the study participants. An interviewer-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. A binary logistic regression was conducted to see the relationship between dependent variables and independent. Those variables having a p-value of ≤0.05 were found to be statistically associated with the response. Results Depression among HIV-positive pregnant women was found to be 28.7% [95% CI (24.8–33.40)] with a response rate of 96.04. Age ≥30 years [AOR = 1.32, 95% CI (1.24–3.35)], urban residency [AOR = 1.76, 95% CI (1.57–4.61)], having first pregnancy <18 years [AOR = 3.82, 95% CI (1.54–17.34)], known HIV serostatus during pregnancy [AOR = 1.29, 95% CI (1.08–2.47)], and COVID-19-related knowledge [AOR = 0.32, 95% CI (0.12–1.12) were significantly associated with depression. Conclusions and Recommendations Nearly one-third of the pregnant women attending antenatal care were depressed. The age of the mother, residence, known HIV serostatus during pregnancy, age in the first pregnancy, and COVID-19-related knowledge were significantly associated with depression, and strengthening the existing care provided was the recalled interventions to combat antenatal depression during the COVID-19 pandemic.
