The aim of the present study is to highlight the kind of indoor aeroallergens and assess their role in asthma severity in children from Annaba city (Algeria). Our study concerned 68 asthmatic children and 50 healthy children. All children's blood samples were obtained to determine biological parameters, followed by home visit to these children to assess meteorological parameters and fungal exposure. It was found that the asthma severity was associated with eosinophilia (χ 2 , p = 0.01), rate of total IgE (χ 2 , p < 0.001) and sensitization to indoor aeroallergens. This association between the severity of the disease and sensitization was strengthened with the presence of mites (χ 2 , p < 0.01) and pets, namely cats (p < 0.001). Moreover, all houses of asthmatic children contain fungal spores, which were also associated with the sensitization to fungi (χ 2 , p < 0.001). The average indoor temperature and humidity in the houses of asthmatic children represent favorable conditions for the growth of mold and development of mites, whose presence, especially Cladosporium and Alternaria, was associated with sensitization to fungi and severity of asthma. The strongest sensitization was found with dust mites (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, Der p1 (d1) and Dermatophagoides farinae, Der f2 (d2)) which is closely associated with asthma severity.

Abstract. The structure of the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) and its influence on regional air quality over the Pearl River Delta (PRD) were examined through two intensive observations in October 2004 and July 2006. Analytical results show the presence of two types of typical weather conditions associated with poor air quality over the PRD. The first is the warm period before a cold front (WPBCF) and the second is the subsidence period controlled by a tropical cyclone (SPCTC). Two typical low air quality situations, which are affected by WPBCF and SPCTC, and one high air quality situation were analysed in detail. Results showed that continuously low or calm ground winds resulted in the accumulation of pollutants, and sea-land breezes had an important role during low air quality conditions. Data on recirculation factors showed that recirculation was significant during low air quality conditions, and steady transportation occurred during high air quality conditions. The ventilation index and the 24 h average ventilation index during high air quality conditions were significantly higher than those during low air quality conditions. Deep and stable inversion layers inside the ABL remarkably affected low air quality. Surface and low-altitude inversions were usually observed during WPBCF, contrary to during SPCTC, during which only the low-altitude inversion appeared frequently.

The method of Levenberg-Marquardt learning algorithm was investigated for estimating tropospheric ozone concentration. The Levenberg-Marquardt learning algorithm has 12 input neurons (6 pollutants and 6 meteorological variables), 28 neurons in the hidden layer, and 1 output neuron for the Ozone (O3) estimate. The Multilayer Perceptron Model (MLP) performance was found to make good predictions with the mean square error (MSE) less than 1 µg/m 3 (0.002 µg/m 3 ). In addition, the correlation coefficient ranges from 0.74 to 0.95 in The Levenberg-Marquardt learning. The Levenberg-Marquardt learning algorithm that a multilayer perception method of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has performed well and an effective approach for predicting tropospheric ozone. Ozone concentration was influenced predominantly by the nitrogen oxide (NOx, NO2, NO), SO2 and temperature. The model did not predict solar radiation to ozone with sufficient accuracy.
