Impact of agricultural residual plastic film on the growth and yield of drip-irrigated cotton in arid region of Xinjiang, China

Abstract: Long-term and widespread use of plastic mulching has led to the accumulation of residual plastic film (RPF) in farmland soils of Xinjiang, China. However, there is no specific quantitative basis for RPF pollution or a clear understanding of the influence of residual film on crop growth. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of RPF on the growth of cotton, an important cash crop of Xinjiang. Based on the field conditions and previous reports, various amount of residual film was applied in 0-30 cm … Show more

“…The soil surface is covered with mulch film, and water and fertilizer are carried out by drip irrigation belt. The residual mulch film and soil are mixed together and combined under the interaction between the upper and lower soil [16], as shown in Figure 1. The irrigation of cotton fields consists of multiple drip irrigation cycles.…”

“…By using these two models the scheduling procedure of hydrologic needs can be simulated [49,50] . When it comes to the utilization of DSSAT models in precise drip irrigation, DSSAT was used on the growth and yield occasions of the drip-irrigated crops [2,51] . Accordingly, Bhunia et al [52] , Asfandyar et al [53] , and Feng et al [54] mapped the spatial variation of water resources for irrigation purposes, and the impact quantification of center pivot irrigation system uniformity as well [4] , all these endeavors facilitate the process optimization of advanced irrigation techniques greatly.…”
