Abstract: The outcomes of the present study indicate that, under realistic conditions, although slower than age-matched, normally sighted controls, participants with AMD were able to accomplish visual searches of objects with high accuracy.

“…27,42,43 Patient-based studies 25,28,44 with realistic visual search tasks are gaining more interest because of their resemblance to tasks that patients have to face in daily life. 19,25,28 The present results can be summarised as follows. (1) Object search performance is affected by ageing, with a decrease in accuracy (13.5 per cent) and an increase in search time (46 per cent) for older compared to younger normally sighted participants.…”

“…Loss of central vision impairs critical real-world behaviors that benefit from high-acuity vision, such as reading and driving (Cheung & Legge, 2005). Such impairments result not only from the loss of highacuity central vision, but also a disruption in eye movements (Caldani et al, 2019;Thibaut et al, 2017). These impairments are thought to underlie deficits in goal-driven attention in patients with CVL, manifested as slower visual search especially in more naturalistic search tasks (for a review, see Crabb & Taylor, 2017).…”
