This paper follows the journey of a team of facilitators as they attempt to improve decision-making meeting processes through the use of group facilitation and electronic meeting tools. The pro vision of staff leadership to assist volunteer Boards with their inner workings is a common task for non-profit organizations. The tech niques described in this paper should be generalizable for man agers in many group decision-making settings.T his paper describes how the two authors, one a facilitator and the other a staff member, systematically and pro gressively used different structured approaches in order to maximize overall meeting outcomes. We will take you on our journey from traditional meetings to facilitated discussions, through our use of computer-assisted on-site discussions and independent at-home use of computer survey techniques for enhancing meeting discussions, and finally, through our exploration of remote or distance-based computer-assisted meetings.
