Immunomodulatory Properties and Therapeutic Application of Bone Marrow Derived-Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Abstract: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are prototypical adult stem cells, identified as an adherent, fibroblast-like population positive for CD105, CD90 and CD73, and lacking hematopietic markers. MSCs can be isolated from different adult tissues including bone marrow (BM), umbilical cord, skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. MSCs have a potent immunomodulatory function via soluble factors, including PGE2, TGF-β, indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO), IL-10, and HGF. Treatment with MSCs can improve type 1 diabetes, liver fi… Show more

“…Both in vitro and in vivo studies show that MSCs do not elicit a proliferative response from allogeneic lymphocytes, evading normal alloresponses and enabling successful transplantation into diverse allogeneic and xenogeneic locations (49,62,64). Human MSCs isolated from the BM are the most established in animal and clinical studies (41). Therefore, human BM-MSCs were utilized in this study.…”

“…The first known source for them was bone marrow (BM‐MSCs). The adipose tissue, umbilical cord membrane, dental pulp, umbilical cord blood, placenta, and periodontal ligament are some of the sources for their isolation 12–14 . According to previous investigations in vitro and in vivo, BM‐MSCs have the potential to differentiate into cells of the three germ layers 12–14 .…”

[12][13][14] According to previous investigations in vitro and in vivo, BM-MSCs have the potential to differentiate into cells of the three germ layers. [12][13][14] In addition, they secrete many soluble factors that have several paracrine effects on the nearby cells, which enhance tissue repair.…”

“…1 Among them, alveoli and bronchi belong to the lung parenchyma, and the rest are parts of the pulmonary interstitium, which is distributed between the parenchyma and plays a role in connection, fixation, and nutrition. 2 Viral infection, air pollution, smoking, and immune system abnormalities are all potential risk factors for interstitial lung diseases. 3 Due to the unpredictability of interstitial lung diseases, 4 daily attention should be paid to reducing the erosion of pathogenic factors.…”
