Immunomodulatory effects of deadLactobacilluson murine splenocytes and macrophages

Abstract: To elucidate the immunomodulation effects of dead lactobacilli, whole cells and gastrointestinal enzymatic hydrolysates of supernatants and precipitates from Lactobacillus paracasei subsp. paracasei NTU 101 and L. plantarum NTU 102 on RAW264.7 macrophages and splenocytes were investigated. Increased NO, COX-2 expression, IL-10 and IL-12 were observed in high-dose precipitates and whole cells of both strains after 24-h stimulation. All of the hydrolysates and whole cells from both strains induced lower pro-infl… Show more

“…This type of milk is also useful for prevention of acute gastric ulcers induced by pylorus ligation and acidified ethanol (via prostaglandin E 2 ), and it significantly enhances superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity (Liu et al, 2009). Moreover, NTU 101F milk can attenuate bone loss in ovariectomized (OVX) mice (Chiang and Pan, 2011) and aginginduced bone loss in BALB/c mice and can lower the risk of osteoporosis (Chiang et al, 2012b). In addition, NTU 101F milk can upregulate and downregulate lipolysis and heparin-releasable lipoprotein lipase, respectively, in 3T3-L1 cells and can reduce obesity in Wistar rats fed a high-fat diet (Lee et al, 2013).…”

“…Although LPPS23 has not been investigated, previous studies have suggested that L. paracasei , either alone or mixed with other probiotics, significantly affects the brain and nervous system [ 27 , 28 , 29 ]. Moreover, L. paracasei NTU 101 has been reported to prevent oxidative stress and modulate inflammatory responses [ 30 , 31 ]. Thus, we hypothesized that LPPS23 exhibits similar functions in SAMP8 mice.…”

“…So the EPSs derived from microbial are a new candidate adjuvant for vaccines. Lactobacilli, including Lactobacillus casei (L. casei), commonly used probiotic bacteria, show the immunomodulatory properties (Chiang, Liu, Tseng, Mau, & Pan, 2012;Giahi, Elmadfa, Hoseini, & Klein, 2013). EPSs are major components of extracellular polymeric substances and the lactobacilli biofilm matrix (Ciszek-Lenda et al, 2011;Oleksy & Klewicka, 2018).…”
