Immunological Aspects of Human Papilloma Virus-Related Cancers Always Says, “I Am like a Box of Complexity, You Never Know What You Are Gonna Get”

Abstract: The human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause different cancers in both men and women. The virus interferes with functions of the cervix, vulva, vagina, anus in the anogenital area, breast, and head and neck cancer due to the local lesions. The tumors lead to death if not treated as a result of distant metastasis to internal organs and brain. Moreover, HPV attenuates the immune system during chronic infection and releases viral antigens into the tumor microenvironment. The tumors know how difficult is to win the ba… Show more

“…While the majority of HPV infections are transient and resolve asymptomatically, with the immune system usually eradicating the virus, persistent infections with HPV pose a significant risk. Such chronic infections can induce dysplasia in epithelial cells, which may evolve into malignancies if left unchecked [38,39]. In the event of an HPV infection, a complex interplay ensues within the stratified epithelium.…”
