Immunohistochemical Expression of Interleukin-17 and Hormonal Receptors in Benign and Malignant Breast Lesions

Abstract: Objectives: IL17 is a critical pro-inflammatory cytokine that is involved in inflammation, multidrug resistance and growth persistence pathways in cancer. This study is aiming at studying the expression of IL17 and hormonal receptors expression in benign and malignant breast lesions using immunohistochemical staining methods. Results: A total of 137 cases of breast lesions were studied, 97 (70.8%) were malignant and 40 (29.2%) were benign cases. Age range for malignant and benign cases were between 26 to 80 yea… Show more

“…Positive and negative controls were run during all reactions and to perform negative control the primary antibody was omitted. Expression of cytokine in tissue was performed semi‐quantitatively based on the overall intensity of staining on the cytoplasm by a pathologists based on percentage of cells expressing stain (10%–30% mild, 40%–60% moderate, >60% strong) 7 . Skin scrapping from advancing margin of active lesion was obtained for fungal culture by standard inoculation technique on Sabouraud dextrose agar.…”

“…Different polymorphisms in the promoter regions of the gene influence this shift, which can increase a person's susceptibility to cytokine-induced chronic inflammation. Proinflammatory cytokines in the tumor microenvironment have been related to a poor prognosis in breast cancer patients, according to research (Ali et al, 2020). In addition, SNPs, for example, may disrupt normal gene expression patterns and lead to inefficient immune responses, which in turn elevate cancer risks.…”

“…19 In the IL-17 gene, there were several polymorphisms detected that might influence the expression of IL-17 . 20,21 Not only the IL-17A - 197G/A (rs2275913) was associated with the risk to RA, but also the severity of the disease and the response to treatment. 22,23 Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association between IL-17A-197G/A (rs2275913) single nucleotide polymorphism and RA among Sudanese RA patients.…”
