“…Insulin-, glucagon-, and somatostatin- IR cells were also observed in the exocrine parenchyma, ductus epithelium, and subepithelial connective tissue of the exocrine ducts with lower frequency in this study. Although the presence of endocrine cells in those regions was commonly reported in higher vertebrates, 41,42 similar observations were reported in some fish species. Immunoreactive cells were detected among the exocrine acini; however, no immunoreactivity was noted in the ducts of the exocrine pancreas of the five species of osteoglossomorha.…”

“…Ahmed (22) (27) in cat recorded that β-cells occupied the center of the islet whereas α-cells were located at periphery. Differently, other investigators like Dhoolappa (28) in Indian donkey and Karaca et al (29) in Van cat documented that α-cells were tend to occur in the center of the islet and β-cells towards the periphery. Tsuchitani et al (30) in minipig mentioned that both α-and β-cells were present in all parts of the islet, intermingling with each other.…”

“…In addition, individual endocrine cells such as α, β, and δ cells can be observed outside the islets (Figures 6-8). This phenomenon was also detected in and many other mammalian species, including rat, cat, dog, pig, non-human primate, bottlenose dolphin, and beluga whale (24,26,34,35). Although why this kind of endocrine cell arrangements in these species are still largely unknown, some studies suggested that these alone endocrine cells may be an indication of proliferation or neogenesis (34)(35)(36)(37).…”
