Immunogenicity and safety of virus-like particle of the porcine encephalomyocarditis virus in pig

Abstract: BackgroundIn this study, porcine encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) virus-like particles (VLPs) were generated using a baculovirus expression system and were tested for immunogenicity and protective efficacy in vivo.ResultsVLPs were successfully generated from Sf9 cells infected with recombinant baculovirus and were confirmed to be approximately 30-40 nm by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Immunization of mice with 0.5 μg crude protein containing the VLPs resulted in significant protection from EMCV infe… Show more

“…The immunization elicited neutralizing antibody levels similar to those obtained after administration of the commercial vaccine. In this study, a prime-boost strategy was more effective than a single-dose immunization, in inducing the production and maintenance of neutralizing antibodies (Jeoung et al, 2011).…”

“…In current study, for first time, we improved a novel strategy to produce HPV VLP using stably transfected Leishmania cells. We could transfect immunization with crude protein containing the VLPs led to 90% protection from EMCV infection [17]. In addition, immunization of BALB/c mice with EV71 VLP elicited potent and long-lasting humoral immune responses as shown by the high total IgG titer [18].…”
