Immunocytochemical localization of angiotensin II receptor subtypes 1 and 2 in the porcine fetal, prepubertal and postpubertal ovary

Abstract: There is considerable evidence for a mammalian ovarian renin-angiotensin system, which may influence ovulation, angiogenesis and steroidogenesis via the autocrine and/or paracrine actions of the biologically active product of the cascade, angiotensin II (AngII). There are two characterized AngII receptors -type 1, AT 1 and type 2, AT 2 .We report the localization of these receptor subtypes within porcine fetal, prepubertal and postpubertal ovaries. Positive staining for AT 1 and AT 2 receptors was observed in … Show more

“…The goat anti‐rabbit IgG secondary antibody polymer was received as part of the EnVision + ® system. Sections from these ovaries have been shown previously not to give falsely positive results in the presence of rabbit non‐immune serum (Shuttleworth et al. 2002).…”

“…Day 46 was taken as the lower age limit -the final histological differentiation of the fetal porcine ovary is not complete until around day 44 of gestation (Pailhoux et al 2001). Both ovaries were collected from pre-pubertal ( n = 3), post-pubertal ( n = 4) pigs (Large White hybrid) and transported to the laboratory on ice within 1 h as described by Shuttleworth et al (2002). In all cases ovaries were fixed in…”

“…Receptors AT1 and AT2 for ANG have been found in the granulosa cells of the antral follicles and in the primordial primary and secondary follicles of sows (Shuttleworth et al 2002). Administration of an ANG inhibitor in cows avoided the growth of the predominant follicle, and decreased the concentrations of E2 (Ferreira et al 2011).…”

“…However, the Ang II type 1 and 2 receptors (AGTR1 and AGTR2) have been identified in porcine granulosa cells of earlier stages of follicle development (Shuttleworth et al 2002b). A positive action of Ang II in estradiol synthesis and growth of preantral follicles in culture were also reported in swine (Shuttleworth et al 2002a).…”
