“…The stromal cells in pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia lesions have been found to be progesterone receptor positive, 11 and similarities have been found between pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia and features of intralobular stroma during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle; 12 these findings support the hypothesis that pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia is a hormone-related proliferation of intralobular stromal cells. [1][2][3]6,11 We did not evaluate hormone receptors in pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia tumors in our series, except one instance of pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia tumor with concomitant invasive carcinoma, where we noticed a strong positivity of stromal cells of pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia for progesterone receptor. Most pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia tumors mimic fibroadenomas or hamartomas on imaging and they are often described as welldefined masses on mammography [8][9][10] and wellcircumscribed hypoechoic lesions on sonography.…”

“…PASH has also been described in men with gynecomastia and a trans-sexual patient taking exogenous hormones (7,8). Furthermore, immuohistochemical positivity for the progesterone hormone receptor has been observed in stromal cells (6). Two of three patients were premenopausal in this report and showed immunopositivity for the progesterone receptor.…”

“…1 These clinical observations were initially substantiated by early experiments in the 1980s using radioligand assays, which confirmed the presence of the estrogen receptor (ER) in vascular tumors; 2,3 however, with the advent of immunohistochemical techniques, subsequent studies performed in the 1990s with antibodies raised against the ER refuted these earlier data and it appeared that the newer technology had exposed the limitations of the older biochemical assays. [4][5][6][7] Recently, an additional ER subtype, estrogen receptor beta (ERb), 8 was identified and the previous ER against which the original antibodies were raised was renamed estrogen receptor alpha (ERa). Although ERa has been assessed immunohistochemically in vascular neoplasms and found to be absent, ERb has not been previously characterized in these entities.…”
