ImmunoCyt test compared to cytology in the diagnosis of bladder cancer: A meta-analysis

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of the ImmunoCyt test compared with urine cytology in detecting bladder cancer. A systematic literature search was performed to locate all publications reporting on the diagnostic accuracy of the ImmunoCyt test for bladder cancer. Data were extracted from 2×2 tables or calculated from reported accuracy data. Collected data were meta-analyzed for sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio (LR), negative LR, diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), a… Show more

“…Sensitivity varies between 83% and 85% and specificity between 75% and 87%. These are higher in primary diagnosis than follow-up [ 28 , 64 , 65 , 70 ]. Mowatt et al [ 28 ] compared uCyt+ ™ with urinary cytology and showed that this test presented higher sensitivity (82% versus 44%) and lower specificity (85% versus 94%), respectively.…”

“…These red and green fluorescences were read using a fluorescence microscope, and if red or green was observed in at least one cell, the sample was considered positive. Compared with traditional cytology tests (44.5% sensitivity and 96% specificity), ImmunoCyt test shows higher sensitivity (80%) but lower specificity (70%) 62 .…”

“…Exfoliated urothelial cells are one of the biomarkers for detecting BC. ImmunoCyt is an immunocytochemical assay that uses three types of fluorescent antibodies to identify antigens specific to EBCCs 62 . One of these antibodies (19A211) targets the high molecular weight form of glycosylated carcinoembryonic antigens, while the other two antibodies (LDQ10 and M344) target glycosylated epitopes 63 .…”

“…At present, seven tests are available: FDA approved six on seven of these tests, and the last one is in agree with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act standards. NMP22, NMP22 BladderChek, and UroVysion have FDA approval for BC diagnosis and surveillance; immunocytology (uCyt+), BTA-TRAK, and BTA-STAT have been approved only for surveillance ( 22 26 ).…”
