Immunoaffinity beads for selective removal of cholesterol from human plasma

Abstract: Anti-low density lipoprotein antibody (anti-LDL antibody) attached poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-methacryloylamidophenylalanine) (poly(HEMA-MAPA)) beads were prepared for selective removal of cholesterol from hypercholesterolemic human plasma. Poly(HEMA-MAPA) beads were produced by a modified suspension polymerization and then characterized by swelling tests and SEM. Blood-compatibility tests were also investigated. The water swelling ratio of the poly(HEMA-MAPA) beads increased significantly (68%) compared… Show more

“…Additionally, immunoaffinity 90 and MIP 91 have been demonstrated in on-line LCMS systems making for automated and highly selective sample preparation. Other platforms have also been introduced such as chip-based MIP 92 and immunoaffinity 93 , immunoaffinity pipette tips (MSIA) 94 , beads 89,[95][96][97] and 96well plates 98 .…”

“…The nanoparticles used for probing and labeling include quantum dots, colloidal gold and silver, polymer beads, dye-doped nanoparticles, and organic nanoparticles (Seydack, 2005). Out of these, quantum dots (which are semiconducting light-emitting nanocrystals) and polymer beads have been widely used in the study of cancer (Gao et al, 2004;Sage, 2004), bacteria (Wenhua et al, 2004), immunological and cellular interactions (Michalet et al, 2005;Stsiapura et al, 2004;Yavuz and Denizli, 2003), and multiplexed detection.…”

“…Yavuz et al prepared poly(2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate‐methacryloylamidophenylalanine) (poly(HEMA‐MAPA)) microspheres with attached antibodies against low density lipoprotein (anti‐LDL antibody) and used them for the selective removal of cholesterol from hypercholesterolemic human plasma 85. Particles with a surface concentration of anti‐LDL antibody equal to 29.6 mg · g −1 were used for the removal of cholesterol.…”
