Immune titers of protection against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2: are we there yet?

Abstract: A few pieces of research exist about the protective titer against severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus 2 (CoV-2; SARS-CoV-2) in monkeys and humans in which the protection could be shown as dose-dependent. Early studies supposed that higher levels of pre-existing neutralizing antibodies (Nabs) against SARS-CoV-2 can potentially correlate with the protection to consequent infection. The data so far showed that cellular immunity is as essential as the humoral one. If needed, its presence can be be… Show more

“…In adults, long-term persistence of T-cell responses has been reported for both SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV, suggesting that decreasing antibody titers may not mean loss of immunity. Therefore, the relationship between the measured antibodies levels and the durability of the protection still remains elusive [ 57 , 58 ].…”

“…The adaptative response consists of antibodies (IgA, IgM, and IgG) [4,12,14]. Another important component during the fight against viral infection is the cytokines, which act in the establishment of intercellular communication [1,[15][16][17].…”

“…4 Nutritional importance of trace elements in available treatment for SARS-CoV-2 infection Treatments for SARS-CoV-2 infection are now widely available [15,17,54]. For example, a variety of vaccines produced by different technologies have been developed and are being applied to prevent severe cases of COVID-19 [17,54].…”
