Immune Response of Mud Crab, Scylla Paramamosain, to Bacterial Lipopolysaccharide

Abstract: Vibrio spp. is one of the main pathogens to cause high levels of mortality in the culture industry of mud crabs, Scylla paramamosain. Although considerable efforts have been devoted to understanding the immune response of S. paramamosain against pathogens, both immune‐response proteins and systematic responses to foreign agent invasions have yet to be investigated in detail. Hence, in this study, we challenged S. paramamosain with bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS) by injection. We examined a number of immune… Show more

“…A comparative transcriptome from the SSH libraries of haemolymphs of Escherichia coliderived LPS-challenged S. paramamosain highlighted several immune response genes that were significantly expressed after challenge, namely copper zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu-ZnSOD), serine protease inhibitor (Serpin), anti-lipopolysaccharide factor, catalase, crustin and scygonadin. 139,140 Cu-ZnSOD dismutates toxic superoxide radicals to oxygen and hydrogen peroxide, and its upregulation is linked to pathogen resistance in the host. 141 Similarly, serpins are known to participate in the defence against bacterial and viral infections in crustaceans.…”

“…Nhằm giảm phụ thuộc vào nguồn giống tự nhiên và phát triển nghề nuôi cua biển bền vững, các giải pháp cải tiến kỹ thuật để xây dựng quy trình sản xuất giống đã được tập trung nghiên cứu (De Pedro et al, 2007;Nghia et al, 2007). Tuy nhiên, tỷ lệ sống của ấu trùng ở các trại giống còn khá thấp do nhiều nguyên nhân như nhiễm nấm trong quá trình ấp trứng (Cholik, 1999), nhiễm nguyên sinh động vật (Cholik, 1999;Dat, 1999), nhiễm vi khuẩn từ cua mẹ và môi trường (Talpur et al, 2011;Wu et al, 2016) và chất lượng nước (Li et al, 2012).…”

“…The major challenge in the hatchery managements was the limitation on the understanding of larvae nutritional requirements (Affandi et al, 2019). The crab production cannot reach the market demand as high mortality and low survival rate occurred during the seed production (Wu et al, 2016). The limitation of seed production was mainly due to the low nutrition supply, diseases and water quality problems (Khoa & Harrison, 2019).…”
