Immediate Loading of a Single Hydroxyapatite-Coated Threaded Root Form Implant: A Clinical Report

Abstract: The successful results of endosseous root form implants in the treatment of partially and completely edentulous patients has been made possible by the application of standardized surgical and prosthetic protocols. Different techniques have been published in the literature with the purpose of reducing implant prosthetic rehabilitation times. This clinical case report describes a new surgical concept and a technique to fabricate screw-retained provisional crowns for immediate loading of free-standing single toot… Show more

“…Few studies have focused on immediate loading of implants for single-tooth replacement (Gomes et al 1998;Ericsson et al 2000a;Malo et al 2000;Chaushu et al 2001;Cooper et al 2001). Gomes et al (1998) placed HA-coated implant and loaded immediately with a provisional crown. Clinically, the implants showed no mobility and remained in function for the duration of the study.…”

“…1,2 In the last 20 years, implant dentistry has evolved dramatically, with the original two-stage protocol modified to include one-stage surgery, 3 immediate implant placement into a fresh extraction socket and immediate implant restoration. 4,5 These three approaches have been combined in an attempt to further expedite the restorative process. 6 Clinical trials have shown high levels of implant survival and success for single tooth implants placed directly into fresh extraction sockets.…”

“…In the last decade, implant dentistry has strongly evolved including one‐stage surgery (Becker et al 1997), immediate post‐extraction implant placement (Lazzara 1989; Werbitt & Goldberg 1992; Polizzi et al 2000) and immediate (occlusal/non‐occlusal) loading (Gomes et al 1998; Ericsson et al 2000; Lindeboom et al 2006; Hall et al 2007). A review on single‐tooth replacements combining these approaches has been published (De Rouck et al 2008a).…”
