Imaging of Central Nervous System Demyelinating Disorders

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: This article summarizes neuroimaging findings in demyelinating disease, the most common being multiple sclerosis. Revisions to criteria and treatment options have been ongoing, and MRI plays a pivotal role in diagnosis and disease monitoring. The common antibody-mediated demyelinating disorders with their respective classic imaging features are reviewed, as well as the differential diagnostic considerations on imaging.LATEST DEVELOPMENTS: The clinical criteria of demyelinating disease rely heavily o… Show more

“…In MOGAD patients, antibodies binding to the native conformation of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein are characteristic, although weak positivity has also been described in healthy populations, requiring a cut-off for diagnostic purposes. Besides serology findings, MRI results on spinal cord lesions are also helpful in distinguishing between the various forms of primary demyelinating disorders of the CNS [ 6 , 8 ].…”
