Image-Based Reconstruction and Analysis of Dynamic Scenes in a Landslide Simulation Facility

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The application of image processing and photogrammetric techniques to dynamic reconstruction of landslide simulations in a scaleddown facility is described. Simulations are also used here for active-learning purpose: students are helped understand how physical processes happen and which kinds of observations may be obtained from a sensor network. In particular, the use of digital images to obtain multi-temporal information is presented. On one side, using a multi-view sensor set up based on four synch… Show more

“…The training rationale rests on three pillars: lectures by senior researchers, field surveys and practical assignments. Assignments provide important support in the training process, as has been demonstrated in the first Summer School 2015 and in other cases (Scaioni et al, 2017). First, because they help students to understand how theoretical background may followup into practice.…”

“…Beyond the role of the academy, specific initiatives have been carried on, such as the "ISPRS Summer School on Close-Range Sensing Techniques in Alpine Terrain" (Rutzinger et al, , 2018, the development of specific active-learning tools (Scaioni, 2017b(Scaioni, , 2018c, and the distribution of relevant teaching material and data sets. The last task is just the main goal of one of funded projects in the "ISPRS Education and Capacity Building Initiatives 2018," namely "Spreading out the Knowledge from ISPRS Educational Events using a Dissemination Internet Platform.…”

“…The experience achieved in the previous years in teaching to MSc students at CERM has been transferred to the new BSc programme. In particular, attention has been paid to lab activities, which are really effective for communicating methods for Geohazards investigation (see, e.g., Scaioni et al, 2017;. In addition, the concept of the entire new BSc programme ICMR was given a marked innovative character, following the trend fostered by Politecnico di Milano towards modernization of teaching methods (Duò, 2019).…”
