IL‐13 upregulates GPIIb expression in megakaryocytic cell lines via STAT6

Abstract: Interleukin 13 (IL-13) is a key cytokine involved in the regulation of inflammatory, immune responses, and cell differentiation. The present study was to investigate the effect of IL-13 on the expression of glycoprotein IIb (GPIIb), a megakaryocytic gene, in Dami cells (human megakaryoblastic leukemia cell line) and HEL cells (human erythroleukemic cell line, which has both erythroid and megakaryocytic markers). Furthermore, it addresses the mechanisms governing the regulation of GPIIb expression by IL-13. The… Show more

“…For example, CCL26 is regulated by IL‐4 in a STAT6‐dependent manner in keratinocytes . GPIIb is up‐regulated by IL‐13 via STAT6 in megakaryocytic cell lines . IL‐13 stimulation enhanced promoter activity of the rat RhoA gene through STAT6 .…”

“…Zivancevic-Simonovic et al (15) determined that IL-9 and IL-13 were higher in PTC patients than in healthy controls. All these cytokines (IL-6, IL-9, and IL-13) are known to be able to stimulate platelet production (16,17). Increased platelet generation may lead to occurrence of large thrombocytes (18), hence, to elevated PDW levels.…”

“…Since platelets, being cell fragments derived from the precursor megakaryocytes, cannot proliferate in the cell culture system due to a lack of nucleus, there are no cell lines available for the molecular study of platelets. The megakaryocytic cell line (Dami cells) has frequently been used for the study of platelets (Khetawat et al 2000; Shi et al 2010; Lev et al 2011). The goal of the present study was to determine which P450s are expressed in Dami cells with the functional activity for the metabolism of ARA.…”
