IgY antibodies of chicken do not bind staphylococcal binder of immunoglobulin (Sbi) from Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract: The immunoglobulin (Ig) binding proteins of Staphylococcus aureus namely staphylococcal protein A (SpA) and staphylococcal binder of immunoglobulin (Sbi) are responsible for false positives during immunoassays. Avian IgY antibodies were reported to have no affinity to SpA and thus are safe for use in immunoassays. However, the behaviour of Sbi with IgY was not reported. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the interactions between IgY antibodies and Sbi protein from different S. aureus strains. Init… Show more

“…IgY against S. aureus or its endotoxins has been used in sandwich ELISAs, immuncapture polymerase chain reaction ELISAs, lateral flow devices, immunopillar chips, immunochromatography, and fluorescence resonance energy transfer assays (245)(246)(247)(248)(249)(250)(251)(252). The success of these approaches is considered due to IgY's lack of reactivity with protein A of S.aureus, which often results in false positives results in other assays (253). In vitro, specific IgY had high binding specificity and inhibited bacterial growth in culture, possibly by interrupting interactions with surface antigens (254).…”
