“…Experiments using pulsed DC (capacitor-discharge) sparks have repeatedly shown an MIE of about 19 ^J [6,7] but Rose and Priede [14] were able to estimate the electrical losses in such an experiment and concluded that only 11 yuJ was actually absorbed in the spark. It is thus interesting to note that the present experiment confirms the latter figure. In fact, the implication of the results is that the MIE is still lower since (a) electrical losses in the cell were not taken fully into account (see Section 4.2) (b) the results for the hydrocarbons are higher than the accepted values, implying that a more 'sensitive' cell could achieve lower MIE figures.…”
