IgG receptors on foetal chick yolk sac

Abstract: In the chicken, maternal IgG is deposited in the oocyte yolk and subsequently transported intact by the foetal chick yolk sac into the chick circulation. Such transport appears to require a specific membrane-localized IgG receptor. Using the assay of 125I-yolk IgG binding, we have investigated the existence and properties of such receptors in yolk sac tissue disks. We find that: (1) There are specific, 125I-IgG binding sites on yolk sac tissue; (2) specific yolk 125I-IgG binding has a distinct pH optimum at pH… Show more

“…The protection of young broilers' GI tract against colonization of Campylobacter has been associated with Campylobacter-specific maternal antibodies (MAB) (Sahin et al, 2001;Vandeplas et al, 2010). MAB, predominantly immunoglobulin G (IgG) class, are transported from the egg yolk across the yolk sac membrane into the embryonic circulation to protect young broiler chickens from C. jejuni infections (Linden and Roth, 1978). However, MAB levels change with the increase in the broiler age.…”

“…Avian FcRY was first discovered in the yolk sac membrane during embryogenesis ( 4 , 9 ). The uptake of yolk-deposited IgY through the yolk sac membrane dramatically increases in the last few days before hatching ( 1 ), which coordinates enhanced FcRY gene expression in the yolk sac membrane (unpublished data), implying that the yolk-deposited IgY transport to embryonic circulation is a brief event associated with rapid uptake of IgY.…”

“…FcRY was isolated from the chicken yolk sac membrane as the receptor responsible for the second step ( 4 , 9 ). FcRY is a member of the mannose receptor family, with 180 kDa as its transmembrane form ( 10 ).…”
