“…This phase was finally completed in July 2019 with the successful injection of a 140 mA D? beam with a duty cycle of 0.1% into the RFQ, leading to a 125 mA, 5 MeV accelerated beam at its exit [29]. Under these conditions, the RFQ transmission was 90%, in line with what was expected and the beam was characterized and losslessly transported to the aluminum low power Beam Dump.…”

“…At the end of the FP8 activities, various systems of the IFMIF-DONES accelerator have reached a high level of design maturity, like the injector, the RFQ and the MEBT as the validation tests of their prototypes in LIPAc have advanced [29,30] as well as the commissioning of similar accelerators around the world (see ''LIPAc Commissioning Tests'' section). As a main conclusion, it is possible to state that the design of the accelerator systems seems feasible and no showstoppers are identified so far.…”

“…This result has also been confirmed experimentally [14]. The IFMIF RFQ obtained a real transmission of more than 90%, in a pulsed d.c. of 0.1%, with a total of 125 mA of deuteron in output at the beam dump [15].…”

“…The simulation code, TraceWin [12], has demonstrated successful comparison with experimental results, particularly in terms of RFQ transmission [14][15][16]. This success is attributed to its ability to handle the RF tuned voltage shape and mechanical electrode positioning, even in cases where the constructed RFQ configuration breaks the vanes quadrupole symmetry; this is done by loading the realized vanes geometry into the simulation program.…”

“…LIPAc is a linear accelerator comprised of an ECR ion source (100keV) an RFQ (5MeV), a MEBT which includes 2 buncher cavities, a SRF LINAC (9MeV) with 8 interleaved HWR superconductive cavities and solenoids with integrated steerers, a HEBT and a beam dump capable to withstand the 125mA D+ beam at 9 MeV, which corresponds to 1.1 MW beam power in CW. In July 2019 LIPAc demonstrated the acceleration of 1ms pulse length of 125mA of D+ [2,3]. The installation and commissioning project is advancing in phases and the main goal of 2021-2023 is to achieve CW operations at nominal beam current at 5MeV [3,4].…”
