Massive involuntary job loss is one of the most damaging consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a distressful life event, studies revealed how it can adversely impact one’s well-being, especially when challenges are unmanaged. Using phenomenology as its theoretical lens, this study aimed to provide an understanding of the experiences of sudden job loss among 12 Filipino migrant workers through semistructured online interviews. In particular, it explored the difficulties, coping mechanisms, and critical resources that enabled them to deal with the transition from being substantial income earners to jobless individuals. The analysis underscored the need for a concerted response, especially at the government level, to help mitigate the adverse psychological and economic impact of unemployment among migrant workers.

The relevance of accessing care and support has been found to be valuable in sustaining well-being among adolescents. However, only a few studies have been conducted to understand the online help-seeking behaviors of middle adolescent students whose mothers work abroad. Thus, the study aimed to uncover the nature of online help-seeking behaviors and explore the facilitators and barriers to these behaviors. Ten (10) middle adolescent students were interviewed, and their experiences revealed several key themes using the phenomenological method. The findings revealed that the online help-seeking behaviors of left-behind adolescents include the availability of a helper, reaching out, self-reliance, and coping strategies. Additionally, facilitating factors include convenience and safe space, and hindering factors consist of the unavailability of helpers and negative perceptions toward help sources. The results highlighted the importance of leveraging informal support networks, seeking professional help, and maintaining communication with migrant mothers among middle adolescents.

Using From a Walsh's Family Resilience Framework, this study explored the experiences of overseas Filipino workers' (OFWs) families as narrated by adolescent children of migrant parents. Ten (10) Filipino college-level older adolescents (five were female) served as participants in an in-depth interview. Their narratives explored key family resilience processes using a Deductive Qualitative Analysis using various domains of family resilience (i.e., family belief system, communication processes, and organizational patterns). The study found that: (1) The family adjusts belief systems to accommodate unsettling realities of international labor migration; (2) Roles change in the family to compensate for responsibilities fulfilled by the parent before leaving for another country; and (3) Communication processes were strained, but family members serve as moderators to ease tensions and maintain a pre-migration relationship. This study concluded that the family resilience framework is a robust lens through which migrant families' experiences can be understood. Families generally exert effort to maintain homeostasis and cope with migration's psychological and social costs. A resilience-focused model for addressing psychosocial needs is proposed. Processes more apparent to the Filipino family and opportunities for future research are also discussed.
