“…We have published 2 original articles 2,3 and a review article 4 describing 20 events in 18 patients, almost all of whom had an apparently identical appearance to these 5 cases, but we have ascribed their presentation to acute hemorrhage related to the sheath or intermuscular septum of the inferior rectus, rather than an initial thrombosis. Of course, CT and MRI will not distinguish between the thrombus seen after a loculated hemorrhage and a thrombus within a variceal cavity.…”
