Identity of molecules bearing murine ia alloantigenic specificities Ia.7 and Ia.22: Evidence for a single type of I-E molecule in homozygotes

Abstract: In homozygous mice bearing I regions derived from haplotype k, only a single type of Ia molecule bearing the alloantigenic specificities Ia.7 and Ia.22 was found using techniques of sequential immune precipitation and tryptic peptide analysis. As suggested at the fourth Ir Gene Workshop (Sachs 1978), Ia.7 is considered here to be an antigenic determinant associated with I-E-subregion-encoded molecules, i.e., it is excluded from the I-C subregion. The I-C subregion is currently defined mainly by functional trai… Show more

“…The different glycosylation of the Q1O gene product by L cells and liver is not surprising as other proteins are known to be glycosylated differently in different cell types, e.g., class II molecules (Cullen et al, 1981). The serum form and the L cell secreted Q1O gene product are identical in size after endo F treatment.…”

“…The above evidence is not conclusive, but nevertheless is suggestive of the homology between DC and 1-A. The possibility that in the mouse a third subset of Ia molecules exists is controversial; earlier reports suggested that I-E molecules can be subdivided into two subsets (Delovitch & Barber 1979), while a more recent report denies such a possibility (Cullen et al 1980).…”

“…Ia specificity 2, which was acquired by schistosomula recovered from C3H/Crgl donors, has been previously shown to map to the I-A subregion (David 1976). Specificity 7, also found on the tegumental surface of C3H/Crgl derived larvae, maps to the I-E subregion (David & Cullen 1978, Cullen et al 1980. Alloantiserum identifying the Ia.8 specificity, which is under I-A control (David 1976), reacted strongly with worms recovered from the lungs of B10 mice.…”
