Identifying Unregulated Emissions from Conventional Diesel Self-Ignition and PPCI Marine Engines at Full Load Conditions

Abstract: A study on unregulated emissions of a conventional diesel self-ignition and partial premixed compression ignition (PPCI) marine engine at full load condition was performed, respectively. In this work, PPCI was realized in a marine engine by blending 15% diesel with 85% light hydrocarbons (LHC). Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to detect and identify unregulated emissions, and the chemical formula and peak area of representative species were obtained. Furthermore, the unregulated emissions … Show more

“…The current solutions for optimizing the combustion phase mainly include new combustion modes and advanced combustion systems. The former includes premixed compression ignition (PCCI), low temperature combustion (LTC) engine modes [1][2][3], and the latter includes changing fuel injection. starting point, fuel injection amount and intake pressure [4,5].…”

“…New ignition methods are among the many options presented in this direction, and HCCI, , PPCI, , and LTC engines have emerged. , Several researchers have also added small proportions of variable types of nanoadditives to the diesel fuel in order to improve combustion characteristics and reduce pollutants. , Some important studies mixed diesel fuel with water to form an emulsion that takes advantage of hydrogen and aqueous oxygen atoms in the combustion. , Since the nineties of the last century until today, studies are continuing to add many types of biofuels to diesel because this fuel is produced from natural sources as it is an oxygenator that contains in its chemical composition oxygen that improves the combustion process inside the combustion chamber. , …”
