Identifying the competencies of China’s paediatric residents: a modified Delphi method study

Abstract: PurposeStandardised Training of Paediatric Resident (STPR) plays an essential role in training qualified paediatricians. Until now, China had no paediatric resident competency index system to effectively guide and evaluate the competence of paediatric residents. This study aimed to establish a competency index system for paediatric residents in China to provide a reference for improving the training system and quality of STPR.Study design and settingThis study conducted two rounds of Delphi expert consultation… Show more

“…Kendall's W coordination coefficient was used to judge the coordination degree among experts. A larger Kendall's W coefficient indicates a higher degree of expert coordination and a higher consistency of expert opinions (Wang et al, 2021 ). The Kendall's W value from the two rounds of Delphi expert survey were (0.097–0.213, p < 0.001), indicating a satisfactory coordination among experts (Table 2 ).…”

“…If all three boundary values for an indicator meet the requirements, the research group discusses the modification feedback from the experts and determines whether the indicator should be used. 27 Using the AHP to assign weights To ensure the scientific foundation of the index system, this study calculates the weights of the first-level and second-level indicators using the AHP and those of the third-level indicators using the percentage weight method. The AHP constructs a pairwise comparison judgement matrix to identify multiple preferences and to determine estimations for each indicator based on expert Open access evaluations.…”

“…The positive coefficient, degree of authority, and coordination coefficient of experts were used to evaluate the results of the expert consultation. The positive coefficient of experts was assessed by the response rate [ 25 ]. An authority coefficient (Cr) of over 0.8 is considered a high expert authority coefficient [ 26 ].…”
